Abe Herbaugh: Sandblasted Retro Dublin Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-614-0136
Abe Herbaugh is an American artisan pipe maker who blends Danish design cues with his own personal style, yielding a portfolio packed with bespoke, delightful designs. He has made this retro straight Dublin before, paying homage to vintage Danish pipe design — à la Sixten Ivarsson and Pipe-Dan — with an organic, flaring Dublin bowl, undulating rim, raised transition, and rounded, Acorn-like heel. Stretching nearly six inches in length, its svelte proportions keep the weight quite light, and nuances like the smooth, broadly chamfered rim and rippling expansion rings at the stem base amplify the bespoke motif. He has dressed it in a dark ruby sandblast to bring out ring grain around the bowl, while giving the shank a lower-profile blast, altogether creating a delightful presence in hand and offering endless detail to admire. The hand-cut vulcanite saddle stem unifies seamlessly with the stummel and stretches out luxuriously, gesturing silently to be smoked.
