Abe Herbaugh: Sandblasted Billiard with Muskox Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-614-0139

Abe Herbaugh is equally talented when it comes to crafting shape-chart classics as his is when approaching more Freehand-like forms. Billiard designs, however, are a rather uncommon offering within the American artisan's portfolio, making this pipe a most welcome sight. His work often reflects Danish design cues, as seen in this Nosewarmer rendition. The plump, curvaceous heel and gradual taper to the rim of the softly rounded, slightly muscular bowl are all informed by Danish shaping. Out back, the transition offers slight cheeking, with the cylindrical shank and slender saddle stem offering balance. The Vermont-based pipe maker has then dressed this piece in a dark, surprisingly craggy sandblast, contrasting the smooth, mahogany-hued rim, while a pale band of muskox horn lightens the composition. The hand-cut mouthpiece consists of jet-black vulcanite, the color mirroring that of the stummel for yet another handsome pipe from the skilled craftsman.
