Abe Herbaugh: Sandblasted Bent Egg Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-614-0153
An especially organic take on the bent Egg, this piece from Abe Herbaugh is informed by the supple contours and easy line work of Danish design. Its forward-urging, rather Scoop-like bowl features a sloping rim that further softens the bulbous form, while the low-set waistline maintains the Egg's plump demeanor. The shank is defined by a crisp ridgeline along the left flank and a more subtle one on the right, ticking upward and flaring in a delightful, gestural display of asymmetry. The stem attaches to the mortise in a mount-style tenon configuration, with a brass ring inset adding reinforcement and providing a hint of flash, the base of said stem presenting stylish accent rings. The American carver has finished this piece in one of his auburn-stained sandblasts, showcasing beautiful arrays of rippling growth rings across the bowl, with the inner rim also smoothly stained and lightly chamfered.
