About This Pipe
One of the United States' most accomplished pipe-making artisans, Abe Herbaugh is known for producing pieces with clean lines and practical proportions, drawing inspiration from the Danish carving style. This bent Egg is an especially handsome offering from the artisan, featuring a crisp, elegant silhouette and fetching finish work.
The bowl of this bent Egg is simultaneously crisp and plump, its walls ballooning gently outward and taking on an energetic forward cant as the rise from a narrow, pointed heel to a flat, smooth rim. Out back, an upturned, tapering shank emerges from the transition, its face adorned with a raised ring of patinated spun copper that, in conjunction with the stylized shoulders of the stem, introduces a pleasing visual rhythm to the composition. The copper ring also adds a subtle flash of color to the ensemble, its rich green hue contrasting handsomely with the rich burgundy hue of the stummel's sandblast.
