Alexander Tupitsyn: Smooth Bent Egg
Product Number: 002-622-0058
This is the sort of shape at which Alexander Tupitsyn excels — a mixture of soft lines and precise geometry, all carefully designed to make for a piece that flows, smoothly, from one end to another. One of the larger pieces I've seen, it's a full-bodied take on the bent Egg, forward canted, with a touch of lip at its foremost rim, giving the entire piece a touch of forward-thrust momentum. At the rear, the shank is not one of his more lenticular designs, instead using a flattened panel at the underside, sweeping through the line of the lower bowl to melt into the fore, its crispness defining the piece as a succinct whole, while the curve of the upper shank creates a tight-knit, sleek profile. It's elegant work, and one which shows off some substantial grain all around, with some particularly fetching flame at the bowl's rear.- Rachel DuBose
