Alexander Tupitsyn: Smooth Rhodesian with Boxwood
Product Number: 002-622-0066
We haven't seen many of these Rhodesian renditions before from Alexander Tupitsyn, which makes having two of them on the same update all the more rare and special. Unlike the other sandblasted iteration, this one here wears a smooth, warm contrast-stained finish. It displays the same low-slung, forward-urging profile, though, with a high degree of dynamic momentum through the curling stem and shank combination. Neatly tucked of transition, it gives way to a squat, classically-inclined bowl, replete with the shape's conventional beadline wrapping the waist. Said beadline, combined with the chamfered rim up top, adds a crisp, sharp-lined contrast to the smooth, flowing profile and gently rounded oval shank, likening the form to the Danish tradition. Overall, it's a rather compact piece, defined by svelte lines and the aforementioned accenting sharpness. With plenty of grain to adore — from fanning straight grain along the lower bowl to birdseye speckling the rim — it's a stunning piece, with a trim band of boxwood to add a hint of pale color contrast to the palette.-Truett Smith
