Alexander Tupitsyn: Sandblasted Bent Apple with Boxwood Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-622-0089

Alexander Tupitsyn excels in crafting compact, muscular forms and this bent Apple is an excellent example, highlighting the Russian carver's sublime shaping and expert finishing techniques. On this piece the forward urging bowl is exceptionally stout and hearty, offering a substantial feel in hand. The wide, oval shank continues the bowl's robustness, echoing the breadth of the bowl's bulging flanks while also giving the bowl its lifted heel. The shank maintains its width until meeting the saddle stem, which ends in an extremely gentle and subtle downturn. Tupitsyn has then finished this piece in a light-depth sandblast, simultaneously preserving the bowl's supple curves while also coaxing out a fascinating array of ring grain. The contrast stain highlights the nuances of the briar's natural grain with the rim left smooth to contrast and features pin pricks of birdseye along its surface. A trim boxwood band graces the stem base, providing a reserved hint of contrast with its pale color.
