Alexander Tupitsyn: Sandblasted Bent Egg Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-622-0094
Alexander Tupitsyn excels in crafting compact, muscular forms and this bent Egg is an wonderful example, highlighting the Russian carver's sublime shaping and expert finishing techniques. On this piece the forward-urging bowl is exceptionally squat and gestural, with its far side sloping downward to join the transition. The thick, abbreviated shank continues the bowl's robustness, echoing the breadth of the bowl's bulging flanks and rising upward to meet the gracefully downturned, tapered stem. Tupitsyn has then finished this piece in a medium deep sandblast, simultaneously preserving the bowl's supple curves while also coaxing out a fascinating array of ring grain. Offering modest contrast is the smooth, chamfered rim, finished in a warm, auburn stain that complements the reddish hues lying beneath the brown stain applied to the stummel.
