Alexander Tupitsyn: Sandblasted Bent Brandy
Product Number: 002-622-0104
Russian artisan Alexander Tupitsyn has been mentored extensively by Vladimir Grechukhin, and makes his own pipes as well, collaborating with Grechukhin and Sergey Dyomin to make pieces for PS Studio. In keeping with the elder Russian's style, Tupitsyn's work displays strong cues of the St. Petersburg school, evidenced strongly in this muscular, compact bent Brandy. While many of Alexander's renditions of the shape display a taller stature, this interpretation offers a more squat bowl, with a substantial taper sweeping down toward a lifted heel. The bowl perches neatly on a muscular, modified lenticular shank, with a rounded top comfortable for thumb draping and crisp ridgelines running up both flanks.
Incredibly uniform ring grain is made unmissable by a well-executed sandblast, and further elevated by one of Tupitsyn's stunning auburn contrast stains. The motif provides plenty of detail for both finger pads and eyes to appreciate, and is matched by a sleek black saddle stem of hand shaped vulcanite, well funneled at the lip button for an easy draw and comfortable perch between the teeth. An excellent concentration of character, this pipe packs a lot of detailed craftsmanship into Nosewarmer length, perfect for anyone looking for a portable pipe of artisanal quality.- Joel Balyeat
