Alexander Tupitsyn: Sandblasted Acorn with Silver
Product Number: 002-622-0115
Alexander Tupitsyn's Acorn interpretations, take on a variety of forms, with a clear progression into a more distinctive style as he has grown further in his mastery of the craft, and this heart-shaped variety is the first of it's kind we have seen from the Russian artisan. Alexander has studied extensively under Russian great Vladimir Grechukhin, and hews closely to the elder craftsman's design choices while continuing to build his own unique style. This Acorn is a great example of his growing creativity, plump in profile but narrow from the smoker's view, with a divided rim that forms the voluptuous swell of a heart. The unique design is dressed in a rich walnut sandblast for a stimulating feel in hand and plenty of beautiful grain to admire. The shank end warrants special attention, as Alexander has crowned it with a curvaceous, arrow-like silver band that mirrors the heart motif, and crafted the base of the stem with exacting precision to follow every detail of the silver's shaping. The stem also benefits from his sharp eye and deft workmanship, with a lithe saddle mouthpiece, slightly bent and boasting a hand-shaped and funneled lip button.- Joel Balyeat
