Andreas Bennwik: Smooth Bent Dublin Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-752-0008
This bent Dublin from Andreas Bennwik features an aggressive, forward stance in profile. Rather than setting the bowl to a strong forward cant as you might expect, however, Bennwik created the dynamic aesthetic by playing with the distribution of visual weight and some pretty nifty linework. The bowl itself is actually quite upright, but the strong taper along the fore, together with the longer taper of the shank and sweeping gesture of the transition come together to keep the visual focus on the pronounced rim and heel to the front, implied forward motion. It works brilliantly here, creating a very sharp look without necessarily resorting to adding any actual sharp lines. Fitting to that inherent dynamism, it's finished here in a vibrant contrast stain, highlighting the block's natural flame and straight grain patterns quite nicely.
