Bill Shalosky: Smooth Bent Apple with Amboyna Burl (348) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-720-0046

While the Apple is regarded as one of the more traditional, classical shapes, this style of tight-knit, muscular iteration has become something of a signature for Bill Shalosky, recognizable for its abbreviated length, strong lifting heel, beveled rim, stout transition, and rounded hardwood accent dressing the shank end. This particular rendition really emphasizes Bill's previous experience in ceramics and sculpture, the soft, supple curves of the bowl practically melding to the contours of the palm when gripped. Another particularly interesting feature of this piece is that despite its sheer muscularity, it doesn't come off visually heavy in profile; instead it cuts quite a light and playful silhouette, ripe with character and bundled up energy. Fitting to that style, Bill's also brought out a lively display of energetic flame grain around the bowl, set in bold contrast through its fiery, smoldering stain.
