Bill Shalosky: Sandblasted Pot (423)
Product Number: 002-720-0085
While Bill Shalosky isn't one to shy away from striking accent materials, such as fordite and deer antler, the American artisan never fails to impress and delight in his more traditionally decorated designs. In this Pot, Bill relies on the simple, perfectly executed form to garner all the attention, allowing the clean lines of the classic shape to take center stage. Everything about this piece is spot on, daring any lover of pipe chart standards not to add it to their collection. The bowl is forward canted at just the right angle to balance out the length of the shank and stem, the fore and aft lines upright and parallel in traditional fashion. Meanwhile, the curve of the transition matches that of the heel, maintaining the composition's coherence, and the sandblasted finish is alluringly minimalist — a contrast stained wealth of subtly textured ring grain, transitioning seamlessly into the tapered stem thanks to a trim ring of smooth, polished briar in between.-Truett Smith
