Bill Shalosky: Rusticated Bent Billiard (455)
Product Number: 002-720-0108
Bill Shalosky fashioned his first rusticated pipe back in 2015, but didn't return to the finish until earlier this year in 2019. Since then, we've received four rusticated pieces from the American carver, including this bent Billiard here. It's a considerably rarer presentation compared to his smooth and sandblasted offerings, and this is the first bent example we've seen. It displays Bill's signature shaping style of robust, muscular proportions and recognizable use of languid curves and a gentle transition — the piece marked by robustness yet devoid of any harshness or sharp lines. This is a relatively compact pipe too, though the chamber depth is of substantial Group 5 or 6 size. An easy clencher, this Shalosky piece has the makings of a go-to, everyday smoker: The size is convenient and versatile, and the finish offers intriguing texture while also disguising any handling marks this piece might pick up over years of steady use.-Truett Smith
