Bill Shalosky: Smooth Bent Apple with Box Elder Burl (480)
Product Number: 002-720-0121
While this bent Apple from Bill Shalosky lacks nothing for plumpness, what is perhaps more interesting is the tight, sweeping gesture displayed by the underside, flowing smoothly from heel to shank end in one continuous motion. It's a style that works in part thanks to its understatement, and due to the ease with which it seems to be executed. It's that ease that is deceptive, itself cultivated through Bill's precise use of lines and proportions, requiring a keen eye and careful consideration all around. The results are stunning, however, giving this piece a subtle sense of swing in profile, and setting the stage for a warm, grain-highlighting contrast stain and a trim accent ring of box elder burl to capture attention.- Chuck Stanion
