Bill Shalosky: Sandblasted Prince with Blackwood and Juma (489) Tobacco Pipe

Although not a shape we've received before from Bill Shalosky, his familiarity with traditional shapes is evident in the classic structure of this Prince. Its heel is forward inclined, lending the overall piece a firm, forward stance, contributed to by the angled, canted rim. It's quite a substantial rendition, measuring more than six-and-a-half inches in length, with a subtle downturn to the creamy Juma mouthpiece, which tapers elegantly from a blackwood accent to the crisp lip button. Cross-grain orientation defines the growth rings climbing the bowl fore and aft, with tight, textured birdseye dominating the left and right. Both traditional and modernistic, it would be a welcome addition to any collection.
