Bill Shalosky: Sandblasted Natural Dublin with Juma (613) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-720-0190

When asked about the pipes that inspired him, Bill Shalosky points to "every pipe ever made," which makes sense when viewing the diverse range of shapes within his portfolio. His work can range from classic shape-chart standards to highly stylized, Danish-inspired pieces, but whatever Shalosky ends up crafting, his love of pipe making, in all its many aspects, is on full display. He has fashioned pieces for BriarWorks, Smoker's Haven, and Chheda Pipes, so he has considerable experience, which is clearly evident when considering this Dublin offering.

The bowl on this piece features a broad outward flare at the rim that tapers down to its rounded heel, creating a comfortable feel in hand, as well as a classic silhouette. Out back, a pinched transition leads to a slightly elongated round shank that maintains a slim profile. A tapered Juma stem completes the ensemble, an uncommon use of the ivory substitute that hearkens back to the turn of the century, when pipes often bore stems of elephant ivory. The tight striations of the stem mimic the natural grain of tusk, pairing perfectly with the light natural sandblast of the stummel in an elephant-friendly medium. Said sandblast reveals finely textured growth rings around the bowl, making this pipe as lovely to hold as it is to look at.
