Bill Shalosky: Sandblasted Sparrow (760) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-720-0289
American artisan Bill Shalosky has been in the pipe industry for quite some time, originally working in restoration and repairs before crafting his own pipes. Today, he is considered among the most prolific and distinctive American artisans, crafting a wide portfolio of shapes and sizes, from Anglo-French standards to elaborate Freehands. A shape commonly seen by Shalosky, this Sparrow is a sweeping yet sturdy piece, calling to mind the Tomato's silhouette but with a heel that sweeps suddenly upward at the fore. Up front, the bowl is squat and forward urging as its walls rise and expand to a high-set waist before quickly tapering inward to the rim. While the overall profile of this Sparrow is substantial, the tobacco chamber remains compact, making this an ideal piece for those seeking short and satisfying smoking sessions. Out back, a broad transition gives way to a hefty oval shank that begins the aft's bend to the bit as it connects to the shoulders of an equally brawny saddle stem. The ebony pigment of the vulcanite mouthpiece pairs well to the ruby-stained stummel, sandblasted to reveal impressive growth rings, save for a thin, smooth band around the shank's base.
