BriarWorks: Classic Brown Sandblasted with Black Stem (C71) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-696-3588
The lone Poker within BriarWorks' portfolio, the "C71" is a stalwart rendition of the reliable, sure-sitting design. That said, the Tennessee-based workshop also fashions Moonshine pipes, and this piece shares some similar shaping cues to those of Moonshine's iconic Stoker form. Where this "C71" differs, though, is in its more classic sense of proportions: It reveals the same angular posture and cylindrical demeanor but trades the Stoker's compact robustness for a more standard length and comparatively tall bowl. That said, it still exemplifies BriarWorks' signature muscularity, offering a firm presence in hand and deep chamber — the perfect desktop pipe for everyday use.
As the name suggests, BriarWorks' Classic series comprises iconic, shape-chart standards and represents the workshop's standard-production lineup. While every BriarWorks stummel is carved on CNC (computer numerical control) machines based on pre-established templates for consistent shaping across renditions, the stem-fitting and finishing processes are entirely hand-applied by the American workshop's team of artisans: Pete Prevost, Bill Shalosky, Micah Redmond, and Sam Adebayo. All four men are artisan pipe makers in their own rights, and BriarWorks' production model of combining mass-production processes with hand-applied, artisanal techniques results in modestly priced pipes with the engineering and aesthetic quality of handmade work. This particular example wears the workshop's Brown sandblasted finish, offering rugged texture and a rustic persona.
