Chacom: Brown Smooth (996) (9mm) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-512-10549
The Chacom name is a portmanteau of the Chapuis and Comoy family names. The Comoys' pipe-making history dates to 1825 when they began crafting boxwood pipes for soldiers in Napoleon's army before transitioning to briar in the 1850s. Their factory in Saint-Claude was among the first to fashion pipes from briar, and in 1879, Henri Comoy immigrated to England and established the Comoy's brand in London — the first English pipe factory — while the Saint-Claude factory supplied briar and unfinished stummels. After WWI, Comoy partnered with his cousins of the Chapuis family, and the Saint-Claude factory was renamed Chapuis-Comoy. After Henri's passing in 1924, his sons assumed responsibility of the brand, alongside their Chapuis cousins, and they established the Chacom brand, featuring pipes made entirely at the Chapuis-Comoy factory now that Comoy's in England was self-sustainable. Today, Chacom pipes are still crafted in Saint-Claude, France, and the renowned Chapuis-Comoy factory, continuing the brand's historic legacy in the birthplace of the briar pipe. This particular "996" Rhodesian design is dressed in the marque's Brown Smooth finish, with a shank and tenon drilled to accommodate a 9mm filter.
