Chacom: Rusticated Bent Apple Reverse Calabash Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-512-11040
Reverse Calabash designs are not shapes unto themselves. Like the traditional Calabash, they feature an internal expanse that cools the smoke before it travels through the airway. While the Calabash features this cooling chamber in the bowl, underneath the tobacco chamber, a reverse Calabash houses the hollow expanse in the shank, allowing non-Calabash shapes to feature the Calabash's distinctive smoking properties. It also results in pipes with stouter shanks than usual, matching well with this compact bent Apple's plump bowl. Fashioned by Chacom in Saint-Claude, France — the birthplace of the briar pipe — this example wears a stylized rustication for an organic aesthetic.
