Clarin Clay: The Canadian One (Tobacco Clay) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-944-0003

Clarin Clay Pipes are the product of a partnership between professional cermamicist Edna Bertin and industrial designer Alexandre "Ale" Vichinheski, who share a love and passion for clay pipes. Fueled by a desire to elevate the status of these pipes in the minds of modern smokers, the pair founded Clarin Clay Pipes in Brazil, focusing their efforts on creating heirloom-quality pieces of the finest craftsmanship. Named after the clarin trumpet, an old wind instrument that's still used today, the duo's name honors Edna's grandfather, who played the clarin and introduced Edna to music in her youth. The workshop's pipes are defined by their refinement, leveraging traditional craftsmanship and intense attention to detail to create pipes that are impressively smooth and remarkably symmetrical. This particular piece is a Canadian, a shape seldom seen in clay, and it comes complete with a lengthy ovoid stem and a pert Billiard bowl for a balanced smoking experience. Crafted from "Tobacco Clay," a special clay flecked with oxidized sediment, the stummel here boasts the look and texture of stone.

Note: While all of our other pipes are photographed individually, these are not, and you may expect some reasonable cosmetic variation between the example we've photographed and the pipe you've received.

The Clay Standard for Standard Clay

Product: Clarin Clay The Canadian One (Tobacco Clay)
After being underwhelmed by the quality of a couple of other clay pipes from other companies, I saw Mr. Ireland using his Canadian One and decided to give it a try. All I can say is wow. When you handle this pipe, it inspires confidence. Thick walls, smooth shaping, has balanced heft. The texture on the Tobacco Clay version is thankfully grabby, not chalky. Why is this important? Combine these features and you have a pipe that you can gently hold with security when it gets hot. With a lighter chalky smooth pipe, I find myself squeezing it to ensure I don’t drop it. The harder you squeeze when it’s hot, the more heat transfers to your fingers, ouch. No such problem whatsoever on the Canadian One. Also comfortable to grasp by the stem, plenty of real estate. Quality is again at least a full notch above the other clays I have acquired to this point. Smooth draw and smoking characteristics are great and I can’t think of a knock in smoking function. Value is great at less than $60. Buy two and get free shipping. Done. You’re welcome....Read More

Product: Clarin Clay The Canadian One (Tobacco Clay)
So, It is pricey for a clay and that I cannot deny. With that said they quality is by far the best I've seen in a clay. I also love the stone look of this one and it is very nice. The photo above is a pretty great representation of what it looks like. It's definitely a great looking clay. If you want to splurge on a clay then this is not a bad option. I love it....Read More

It is super pretty and has a rugged hand feel. It is much better in quality than old German clay and Old Dominion. You will not regret getting one.
Great, but a little short

Product: Clarin Clay The Canadian One (Tobacco Clay)
I rarely smoke clay pipes, but am making a run at this one. Call it ‘Clay May’. Overall, quite impressed. The material and workmanship is best in class, which one should expect at this price point. My largest complaint is that this model is short for aesthetic reasons, and smokes hotter than other clays I’ve tried. At this length and price it would be extremely nice to be able to clench something that doesn’t feel like a ceramic tile, either with a rubberized coating on the bit or with a fastened stem that can be removed for purists. The length also only leaves a small portion to hold when the pipe gets hot. Either of these improvements would make this a go-to pipe in my collection....Read More
