Davide Iafisco: Smooth Bent Dublin
Product Number: 002-702-0064
Davide Iafisco's dynamic style and approach to pipemaking is highly influenced by the Danish school, perfectly manifesting itself in this bent Dublin. It's a remarkably streamlined, smooth-flowing rendition of the timeless form, its supple curves accentuated by the sweeping underside. In silhouette, this piece has a Horn-like appearance, its curling line work gradually guiding the eye to the flaring Dublin bowl up front. However, what truly steals the show here is the magnificent grain on display. The birdseye along the base gives way to an explosion of straight grain, countless streaks climbing the bowl before terminating just under the rounded rim that's dominated by a sea of swirling birdseye. The stummel is attractively dressed in a warm auburn stain and free from any accenting materials, opting instead for a subtle ring of plateau along the shank face. It seemingly radiates naturally out from the mortise and creeps along the domed shank face, echoing the inflated appearance of the broad rim. An excellent showcase of grain and superb shaping alike from Iafisco.- Jeffery Sitts
