Davide Iafisco: Sandblasted Scoop
Product Number: 002-702-0074
I don't know where Davide Iafisco sends his mind when he's designing pipes, but I want to visit. It must be a place where creativity abounds and new twists on old themes grow like weeds, because when he comes back, he brings pieces like this Scoop. Look at the ridging on the shank, for example, or the smooth-faced end of shank with the contrast stain, or the overall curvature from a top or side view. It's a study of elegant, natural curves contrasted by carefully engineered and geometrically precise ridging. The mouthpiece is expertly crafted, of course, and its saddle configuration provides almost no visual weight in comparison to the stummel. The scoop of the rim is a natural echo of the undercurve, as well, and sandblasted. The only smooth areas of the pipe are at the nomenclature panel and at the end of the expanding shank, leaving the rest an understated, deep black. Sophisticated, elegant, creative and beautiful, this Iafisco Scoop is a treasure.- Chuck Stanion
