Davide Iafisco: Sandblasted Bent Apple with Silver
Product Number: 002-702-0099
A particularly elegant, Prince-like take on the bent Apple, this rendition from Davide Iafisco fits in well with the Italian artisan's portfolio of traditional interpretations. The bowl is low-slung and broad, prioritizing width over height and is finished in a concise tanblast. A mesmerizing array of undulating grain dances around the bowl's flanks and since this piece is lightly stained, the stummel will gradually darken with time and use, slowly developing a patina with each bowl that's smoked. The smooth rim offers some understated, yet tasteful contrast and is stained a complementary hue before sloping slightly inward to the chamber.
What I find to be particularly irresistible about this composition is the sterling silver mount that adorns the shank end as it adds a regal touch to an already graceful piece. The flashy accoutrement provides some stunning contrast in between the stummel's tan color and the jet-black mouthpiece. The willowy, lithely bent stem makes up the majority of the piece's length and ends in a gentle downturn that immediately calls to mind the classic Prince shape. If you prefer traditional shapes elevated by a talented artisan pipe maker, Davide Iafisco's work demands attention.
