Davide Iafisco: Smooth Egg with Horn Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-702-0102
Though we've seen a few bent Egg renditions from Davide Iafisco over the years, we've never seen a straight rendition from the Italian artisan. That said, this offering ably showcases Davide's talents and stylistic range, delivering a shape that reflects his appreciation for bulbous bowls and balanced proportions. It's of a convenient length, measuring just under five inches long and displays several elements that make it all the more desirable. The bowl in particular is affably rounded, its fore and aft lent of touch of bulbous curve which works in tandem with the bowl's forward cant to accentuate the design's gestural disposition, in a sort of Devil Anse manner.
The shaping has also worked perfectly to emphasize the briar's remarkable grain patterns, as the flanks are saturated in birdseye and separated by streaks of cross grain. The beveled rim is also a nice touch, sloping inward to the chamber and adding some crispness to the profile thanks to its encircling ridgeline. The beefy shank continues arrow straight behind the forward-urging bowl, terminating in a creamy horn mount which nicely complements the stummel's walnut contrast stain while its darker streaks mirror the jet-black stem.- Jeffery Sitts
