Davide Iafisco: Smooth Bent Dublin with Horn
Product Number: 002-702-0103
While we've seen quite a few Dublin interpretations from Davide Iafisco in the past, each one is unlike the last and inherently unique in its execution. The Italian artisan has presented renditions that are architectural, compact, and sweeping, showcasing Iafisco's remarkable versatility when crafting the shape chart standard. Here, Davide has crafted what I think is easily one of his most stunning interpretations of the bent Dublin thus far as it beautifully incorporates organic elements and precise line work. The shank's continuous curve leads the eye to the flaring bowl up front, its rim crowned in rugged, dimpled plateau.
In terms of grain, the birdseye along the lifted heel gives way to tight streaks of vertical grain along the sides of the shank as well as all around the forward-urging bowl. The shank end is accented by a horn mount, its mix of dark and creamy tones pairing well with the stummel's contrast stain. The horn's brief flare is mirrored by the expansion disc along the stem's base while a brass inset ring adorns the face of the mount, adding a hint of flash as well as some reinforcement. Simply a brilliant piece from Iafisco that demonstrates the careful attention he pays when it comes to shaping and maximizing the grain orientation of each briar block he touches.- Jeffery Sitts
