Davide Iafisco: Sandblasted Tomato with Horn Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-702-0116
David Iafisco has quite the diverse portfolio, ranging from Freehand designs to more classically inclined pieces. He's an artisan with an equally broad range of influences, drawing inspiration from Teddy Knudsen and Claudio Cavicchi, while also having attended Jeff Gracik's and Adam Davidson's pipe-making seminars. That wide range of influence can be felt in his designs, which often showcase a penchant for Danish shaping cues. He's a multifaceted carver, and his work speaks to a certain bespoke aesthetic that captivates and charms.
This Tomato features a broad, low-slung bowl replete with a soft curvature thanks to its lifted heel and gently sloped sides. The shank flares slightly coming out of the transition, which displays a nice bit of cheeking, before giving way to an eye-catching, shimmering, mocha-hued accent of horn. The horn accent demarcates the earth-toned sandblast of the stummel from the saddle stem of cumberland, matching the overall color palette. It's a precise, well-balanced piece that manages to pack plenty of elegant shaping into compact proportions, with this particular pipe coming in under five inches in total length.
