Davide Iafisco: Sandblasted Billiard with Silver Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-702-0143
With a deep appreciation for the history and craft of pipe making, Davide Iafisco takes inspiration from various schools of design. He studied personally under carvers Teddy Knudsen and Claudio Cavicchi and attended the pipe-making seminars of Jeff Gracik and Adam Davidson. Those influences are obviously present in his work, but Iafisco also transforms and elevates his influences into something completely his own.
This Billiard showcases the more conservative side of Iafisco's shaping style, presenting the classic design in snug, Nosewarmer dimensions. The bowl here, while quite petite, boasts a Pot-like breadth and a subdued taper from its wide heel to its tauter rim. Though this piece measures in at less than five inches from end to end, the proportions are spot-on and well-balanced, with the bowl, shank, and stem all visually aligned within the composition. A dark sandblast dresses most the stummel and highlights a wealth of birdseye across the bowl's flanks, while the smoothly polished rim offers a touch of contrast. A sterling silver accent adorns the junction and ties the entire composition together with a dose of flash.--Davin Hylton
