Davide Iafisco: Sandblasted Dublin with Bamboo Tobacco Pipe

Though he hails from Italy, Davide Iafisco is a pipe maker who draws inspiration from Danish, Japanese, and American design traditions. His various influences are channeled through his personal creative prism, resulting in designs that are singularly his own. One of Iafisco's organic offerings, this Dublin boasts a sleek outline embellished with rugged plateau and two knuckles of bamboo, the former covering the rim and latter extending the shank. Though asymmetrically oriented, with each node of the dense grass positioned at a jutting angle, the bamboo, paradoxically, imparts a balanced rhythm to the aft, with the knuckles' slanted build mirrored by the base of the slender saddle stem. Additionally, the bamboo lends a touch of contrast to the shape's palette: its light hues peaking through the nodes and offsetting the rest of the composition's dark complexion. Dressing this piece is an inky sandblast that highlights an impressive showing of grain across the stummel, the finish's rugged texture complementing the plateau at the rim.
