Doctor's: Partially Sandblasted Dublin with Bamboo (607) (Double Flash)

Product Number: 002-630-0072

When seeing such a gnarled, uniquely shaped stretch of bamboo fitted to a pipe's shank, Roman Kovalev is the first name to come to mind. Doctor's Pipes have become virtually synonymous with highly organic designs and are often paired with crazy ferrules of bamboo. In the case of this bent Dublin, the two knuckles of bamboo used as a shank extension are considerably squashed, resembling that of an oval shank in profile. Roman has done an incredible job at shaping the stem, though, beautifully and naturally integrating the alternative medium's unique shape to fit seamlessly into the overall piece.

As for the bowl, it's a rather traditional design, boasting incredibly thick insulating walls and a gradual flare toward the rim, providing a firm and natural feel in hand. It's dressed in Roman's signature, "Aeroblast" sandblast, rippling with luscious ring grain all the way to the inflated rim, which has been left smooth and inflated to show just a subtle kiss of plateau. Measuring in at under five inches in length, this is one of Kovalev's more compact offerings, suited well to a hands-free smoke. It's gorgeous work from the carver, displaying a lovely balance between organic and traditional shaping cues.
