Doctor's: Smooth Horn with Bamboo and Boxwood (Double Flash) Tobacco Pipe

With an emphasis on poise and height, this Horn from Roman Kovalev is a sprightly, energetic-looking briar, imbued with a touch of organic charm, but presenting a feel in hand as smooth as that of the sports car's gearshift. Its curling, conical form offers a number of different accommodations for the hand, with ample space at the transition for the thumb or forefinger. Roman's brilliantly managed to complete the form initiated by the curling bamboo shank extension here, the likes of which are diagonally oriented in relation to the transition, resulting in a slightly twisted sense of shaping. Utilizing a slender wafer of polymerized dinosaur bone between the two mediums, along with a naturally wavy shank-end (the likes of which evoke an Elizabethan-style ruffle, to my eye), this Double Flash-grade is the sort of piece that's likely to make for a briar you'll turn to again and again.
