Doctor's: Smooth Bent Pot with Bamboo and Dogwood (Double Flash) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-630-0098
A signature design from Roman Kovalev of Doctor's pipes, this piece showcases a full-bent form and utilizes the Russian carver's conventional use of extra-wild bamboo. Typically, Roman will pair such bamboo with Horn or Apple bowls, but here he's opted for a traditional Pot — the squat, stolid form exaggerated in comparison to the slender shank, bamboo, and stem. The transition is tight and well-defined, poising the bowl on the end, as if inflating from out of the bamboo. Said bamboo is gnarled and erratic, contrasting the smooth, supple curves and inflated rim of the bowl, and the knuckles are sealed with nodes of dogwood, matched by a trim ring at the end just before the saddle stem. The deep bend makes this a comfortable jaw-hanger and increases the pipe's compactness overall, and the walnut finish reveals a stunning array of flame grain along the flanks, with birdseye on the heel and rim, earning Kovalev's Double Flash grade.
