Emiliano: Smooth Acorn with Mammoth Tobacco Pipe

Emanuel de Queiroz Emiliano started smoking in seminary and was inspired by the pipes of his countrymen to begin carving his own, having since become one of Brazil's most accomplished artisans: drawing from a variety of styles to cultivate a unique, sophisticated portfolio. We've yet to see a rendition of the Acorn from Emiliano during his tenure on our site, making this a rather special piece from the artisan, and one that showcases a unique interpretation of the modern classic shape. Fairly compact at just a touch over five inches long, this pipe yet maintains an appreciable heartiness about its silhouette, which keeps the entire composition looking balanced. The transition here is raised very slightly above the heel, and it assumes a pinched look thanks to the shank's own expressive flare toward the end, with this flare following a consistent curve that terminates at a broad, domed ring of mammoth. Here, the shank pairs to a slim, subtly downturned saddle stem of black vulcanite, poising this pipe for more comfortable smoking and affording the composition an understated bit of fluidity out back. Up front, the bowl stands on a pronounced, rounded heel spur and grows dramatically flaring walls that expand out and urge forward, rising toward a more mid-set waist in comparison to other Acorns. This results in a bold bulge at the fore wall which draws the eye and enhances the forward urge possessing the bowl before the walls make a domed arc to the chamfered rim. Tall and supple, the bowl is comfortable in hand and provides plenty of space to showcase the stummel's warm, auburn-tinged stain, which reveals flame grain lining the shank and wrapping around the bowl: all contrasted neatly by the pale mammoth accent.
