G. Penzo: Smooth Devil Anse (Flame) (7A) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-782-0007
The Devil Anse shape is one that's been experimented with and reinvented myriad times in recent years, with makers and marques from all around the globe putting their own spin on the design which first appeared alongside Kevin Costner in the History Channel mini-series Hatfields & McCoys. Here Giacomo Penzo's presented us with his own take on the shape, featuring a Pear-like bowl with the waistline oriented quite high, set to a strong forward cant and followed by a low-profile oval shank and stem configuration. He's also kept the heel light and lifting, softening the whole composition overall. To top it all off, it's finished in a warm, defined contrast stain, highlighting some excellent grain.
