G. Penzo: Smooth Liverpool (Flame) (A) Tobacco Pipe

The Liverpool isn't a shape I normally associate with Italian makers, though Giacomo Penzo has made lovely work of it in this case. Sleek of shank and stem, just well-balanced enough to be a Liverpool rather than a Billiard, and with a classically firm bowl, it feels quite in line with the English archetype of the shape. Better, still, it's dressed in a whole lot of flame grain and a warm, light contrast, giving an appearance that is delightfully eye-catching. It's neat work from Giacomo, and something that is sure to fit in with a collection of tidy classics.
