G. Penzo: Smooth Tomato with Boxwood (Rudegar)
Product Number: 002-782-0053
I have a natural affinity toward compact pipes that are also robustly proportioned as I appreciate pocket-friendly designs that I can still admire when cradled in the palm. This Tomato from Giacomo Penzo is a fine example of those characteristics, the plump, broad bowl commanding the majority of the composition's visual weight while the overall length is just over five inches. It's also imbued with Penzo's artisan engineering and appealing visual aesthetics, resulting in a pipe anyone would be proud to add to their collection. The half saddle mouthpiece adds some crisp line work to the profile, gradually tapering toward the lip button. Dressed in a glossy chestnut stain, an abundance of flame grain wraps around the chubby bowl while the lighter hues of the finish echo those of the boxwood ring that adorns the shank end.- Jeffery Sitts
