About This Pipe
An industrial designer by trade and currently serving as Peterson's in-house pipe specialist, Giacomo Penzo has spent much of his working life invested in crafting tools and instruments to work to their highest potential. Such skill combines well with his artistic eye to fashion beautiful pipes supported by long-lasting quality and exemplary engineering, and his personal shaping style runs the gamut from traditional pieces to more avant-garde designs.
This Tulip is a handsome showcase of G. Penzo's work, defined by a sweeping sense of forward momentum. The bowl is dramatically forward-canted and rendered in an Egg-like form, complete with a gently lifted heel that adds elegance to the silhouette. A wide, softly cheeked transition further emphasizes the bowl's rounded character. The robust, straight shank keeps the profile's momentum at the forefront and creates a pleasing contrast with the pronounced cant of the bowl. At the shank's end, a domed face outlined by a subtle ridgeline mirrors the similarly shaped shoulders of the stem, creating a layered, stacked appearance through the aft portion of the profile. The stummel is finished in an earthy mahogany stain that highlights attractive cross grain around the bowl.
