Grechukhin: Sandblasted Bent Apple with Bone
Product Number: 002-497-0054
I've noticed that when it comes to his long-shanked creations, Vladimir Grechukhin seems to heavily favor these vertically flattened, blade-like shanks. Can't say I blame him - they work well combined with a long, gradual arc, and pair perfectly in silhouette with the compact bowl-forms that are very much the rule in his personal style. Being particularly thin at the transition, they also make for a much better pipe in hand - there's enough substance above and below the draft-hole to ensure the briar does not become delicate, while that which has been removed from the flanks ensures neither transition nor shank gets in the way as you wrap your thumb and fingers around the carefully poised form of the bowl.
