Grechukhin: Sandblasted Two-Tone Blowfish with Boxwood
Product Number: 002-497-0111
For Vladimir Grechukhin, this is a pretty conventional shape. Granted, we are talking about a Blowfish — a shape that's now "standard" form, or at least formula, having been defined by a still-living artisan (Hiroyuki Tokutomi) — but nonetheless by Grechukhin standards this is about as close to a strictly "classic" version of a shape as things get. That said, he did slip some very "Grechukhin" cues in there, most notably a transition that's deep in profile yet very slim in cross-section. Another interesting touch is the accent, which is itself asymmetrical in the arrangement of its two strongly contrasting yet seamlessly joined materials. This was a deft way of complementing what is, essentially, a fine execution of the Blowfish according to the rules established by Tokutomi: a paneled shape where natural balance and organic asymmetry meet.
