Grechukhin: Sandblasted Two-Tone Tomato with Black Palm
Product Number: 002-497-0118
This is one of the more challenging Grechukhin shapes I've come across, as far as describing it goes. In some ways, it resembles certain modified Tomatoes we've seen from Vladimir in the past, though the bowl is clearly taller than it is wide. The underlying form here is really more that of an Egg, turned to lay lengthwise. Then there's the lines. As Adam Davidson was quick to point out, the lines of this design belong to a Blowfish, and what really makes the shape distinctive is the way Grechukhin took those lines and applied them perfectly to a symmetrical design that stands on its own. It isn't a Blowfish, but it's not a retreat to any more conventional a shape either: it's clearly "Grechukhin" and original in nature. Adam even suggested calling it simply a "Pomidor", Russian for tomato, since this design really falls outside of standard shape definitions.
