Grechukhin: Sandblasted Bent Apple with Osage Orange (Collaboration with J.Alan) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-497-0124
See: J. Alan's "Speedster". That was my first thought when looking at this Vladimir Grechukhin/Jeff Gracik collaboration. Clearly it is a shape different from Jeff's Speedster, on the outside, but the underlying gesture and stance, and placement of mass and momentum definitely show a relation between the two. I would call it Gracik on the inside, Grechukhin on the outside, as the clearly greater roundness here, and generally more compact, powerfully knit sense of forms and proportions are just as "Grechukhin" as the gesture and stance are "Gracik". As far as collaborative pipes go, I find this one of the most interesting I've seen in person; it's overall a very smooth, clean, cohesive, and on the surface simple design, yet strong elements native to both artisans are easy to find.
