Grechukhin: Sandblasted Long Shank Bent Apple
Product Number: 002-497-0165
While we've seen long-shanked pieces from Vladimir Grechukhin with proportions so exaggerated that they would possibly look out of place anywhere but the confines of a home smoking den (or display case), this elegant bent Apple from the Russian pipemaker is fairly understated, not to mention fairly trim overall. Sure, the rounded, slightly forward bowl does show a sense of bulbous mass, but the combination of cant, gently-tucked transition, trim length of (gently) upward-flicking shank, and petite saddle stem keep things fairly active in profile. And despite its over 5 inches of length, the weight is still fairly light overall, at only a little under 41 grams. Finished in a warm, smokey contrast stain over a rich, ring-accentuating sandblast, I think it's safe to say this briar is a delight all around.
