Grechukhin: Smooth Bent Egg
Product Number: 002-497-0176
While perhaps not as recognized for it as the late Peter Heescheen, Vladimir Grechukhin does indeed have a knack for producing plump, cheeky briars. Of course, he has his own way of going about it. Rather than exaggerating the contours of the flanks, Vladimir shapes the transition and shank into a tall yet narrow, blade-like arrangement, creating the illusion and hand-feel of a cheeky bowl without actually extending the flanks out to either side. We see exactly that style of shank here in the bent Egg rendition, its horizontal cinch and tall stature not only emphasizing the quick, upward-flicking gesture of the silhouette and providing a broad canvas on which to showcase a wealth of flame grain, but also lending more visual weight to the bowl's plump flanks. The result is just as pleasing to hold as it is to look at — which is saying quite a lot, if you ask me.
