Grechukhin: Smooth Bent Brandy with Mammoth (G)
Product Number: 002-497-0239
This bent Brandy presents a striking combination of tight, oval shank and broad, cheek-adorned bowl, two cues which are indelibly linked to Vladimir Grechukhin. Here, though, the combination comes across as especially powerful and controlled, bolstered by an extension of the undermost line as it dissolves into the heel. This effect is countered by the tightly pinched transition, guiding the eye gracefully to the shank-end's accent by way of a very gentle sense of flare.
It's one of those forms that takes on a different sense of character depending on the angle from which you view it, as Vladimir's eye for detail is well on display here, particularly evident from the ultra-tight lane of birdseye dancing on the aforementioned central ridge. Wearing a gorgeously warm contrast, there's no shortage of flame or birdseye as far as the eye can see, complemented by a lenticular mammoth accent at the mortise-face. An awesome piece.- Daniel Bumgardner
