Grechukhin: Sandblasted Bent Apple with Ivorite
Product Number: 002-497-0254
A stunning display of Vladimir Grechukhin's conventional style, this bent Apple showcases stout proportions and a hearty in-hand feel, all in a package that remains impressively compact and versatile. This piece measures in at barely over four and half inches in length, making the most of the abbreviated form by displaying a strong degree of forward-urging visual momentum — the flowing curves of stem and shank ushering the squat, Pot-like bowl into a forward cant, the aft line rising slightly above the fore-most curve. Though the bowl is canted and, thus, the rim is inclined forward, the bowl's low-set waistline remains parallel to the horizontal plane, most noticeable in hand and keeping the form well-planted and contributing to its plump disposition. Out back, the shank curls effortlessly through the transition and offers a softly rounded, triangular cross section for some subtle rigidity. It's all dressed, then, in one of Vladimir's signature, contrast-stained sandblasts, refined by a neatly chamfered, smooth-polished, innermost rim and creamy white accent of ivorite at the shank end.-Truett Smith
