Grechukhin: Partially Sandblasted Bent Brandy with Rosewood
Product Number: 002-497-0260
While I've tended to find dual-finished pipes to be too busy, this piece is an exception. Vladimir Grechukhin has beautifully rendered this partial sandblast, its bowl housing consistent growth rings in a craggy texture, while the rim and shank remain smooth. The rim is gently rounded and features birdseye across its expanse, and the shank is demarcated from the bowl via a precise beadline. The shank is rounded top and bottom, with plenty of birdseye and two flat panels running along the sides, illuminating vertical grain. The smooth sections are hued in a mahogany contrast stain that truly makes the grain mesmerizing.
The stain of the bowl is echoed by the rosewood shank cap and jet-black vulcanite saddle stem. The pipe maintains a wide stance thanks to its broad shank, which is about half the width of the bowl. Balance is, of course, remarkable, and it's hard to imagine anything but comfort reflected by this pipe. Vladimir is certainly pursuing the new and better, and he knows how to execute what he can imagine.- Chuck Stanion
