Grechukhin: Sandblasted Strawberry Wood Bent Billiard with Ivorite
Product Number: 002-497-0268
This bent Billiard from Vladimir Grechukhin fits in well with the Russian master's penchant for robust, hearty designs that are also pocket-friendly and compact in regards to overall length. The bowl cants forward from out of the seamless transition, its height emphasized by the oval shank's compressed disposition while merging harmoniously with the bowl's low-set waistline. The stem's soft downturn provides excellent balance in relation to the bowl's canted nature and promises comfort when clenched in the jaw.
However, I must admit that the star of the show is the finish and execution of the sandblast. Strawberry wood is renowned for the unique grain and wild patterns that can be unveiled through sandblasting, and such is the case here. Seemingly endless waves of rippling ring grain creep up the bowl's flanks, made even more impressive by the rich, crimson-tinged stain. The smooth, chamfered rim and the pale ivorite accent band offer just the right amount of contrast without taking anything away from the captivating grain. Whether you're a long-time collector of Vladimir's work or have yet to add a pipe crafted from an alternative material to your arsenal, this is a tempting piece from a highly skilled artisan.- Jeffery Sitts
