Grechukhin: Sandblasted Acorn
Product Number: 002-497-0288
The Acorn is not a shape we often have the pleasure of seeing from Vladimir Grechukhin, but his distinctive style is clearly represented in the gestural shaping, diminutive length, and flared shank of this rendition. The bowl displays a rounded top and smooth graduation as it reduces in diameter and gently transitions to shank, the outer linework completing a continuous, slightly elongated curve from rim to shank end. The top of the shank forms a comfortable sway, perfect for thump draping, and uses negative space to describe the pipe's shape.
A two-tone finish of auburn hues dresses the stummel, working in concert with a stimulating sandblast to accentuate growth rings that encompass the bowl. The shank's flare is continued in the base of a push-style hand-cut vulcanite saddle stem, the mouthpiece turning downward just slightly to offer a comfortable smoking posture. A highly functional and quite striking piece from a Russian master carver, this pipe will be right at home as the centerpiece of any collection.- Joel Balyeat
