Henri Sorensen: Smooth Volcano Tobacco Pipe

Volcanoes have been interpreted in more creative ways than I could name, but this remarkable piece from Henri Sørensen is among the most elegant. Most often, Volcanoes have a flat, plateau bottom, but Henri has chosen another route with a convex, domed heel populated by enthusiastic birdseye, also evident on the rim. That means this one won't sit, but it should hang in the jaw easily enough. The transition is angled toward the shank, thrusting the bowl forward visually, a phenomenon aided by the subtly expanding shank. Beautiful grain abounds. For something distinctive and a departure from the usual Volcano, this piece should satisfy.
